Northeast Airlines (Abbreviated as NEA) is an airline that appeared in the 1990 action thriller film Die Hard 2.

Description[]

In the film, the wife of protagonist John McClane, Holly, takes a Northeast flight to Washington-Dulles International Airport, only for the flight to end up circling the airport after terrorists take over the air traffic control system and deactivates the runway lights. Eventually, the plane lands safely using the fire trail of a destroyed aircraft the terrorists were using as an attempt to escape.

Basis[]

Northeast Airlines is most likely based off the real-life Northeast Airlines, an American airline that operated from 1931-1972. Their letter font in the logo also bears a similar resemblance to the movie Northeast Airlines. (See image below)

The aircraft used to portray the NEA L-1011 is actually N765BE, c/n 193P-1105. Built in February 1975 and entered service with All Nippon Airways that month. In 1985 it exchanged hands to Hawaiian Airlines who owned it during filming. It returned to service and had a brief stint with Rich International Airways from 1995 until it was stored in 1997. It was broken up in 2004.
